WE HAVE A THIRST FOR GOOD BEER & KNOWLEDGE
Bees! If you know anything about Brisbane history, you will know that Newstead Brewing has had Bee Hives on our brewery roofs since we kicked off 11 years ago.
Yeah, we’ve loved bees since forever and our wonderful friend Hoodlum Honey is the bestest bee keeper of all.
Encouraging Bees to exist in this world is paramount to the success of all things life. They pollinate the crops we need and contribute enormously to our very fragile ecosystem. Commercially and physically we are stuffed without them.
I mean how do we eat if those little spicy sky raisins don’t do their cute business with the pollen? How do we have delicious condiments and hot toddy’s? How do we have HONEY CHICKEN WINGS?!
I, for one, kneel before our ouchie bum stingy lords.
Our original Brewery on good old Doggett Street and its incredible thriving hive has now been commandeered by Working Title for their absolutely incredible Mead range called Hive (yeah, makes sense).
This very weekend we are hosting a nation-wide Mead comp at our Milton Brewhouse because, well, you heard it here mates. Mead is coming, get on it!
Enough about some other breweries incredible contribution to all things fermentation and back to bees! Our bees!
Gathering their pollen from all over Milton and the surrounding suburbs, the flavour profile is very unique. Apple, tropical and rich florals. No essence of bin chicken in sight. The benefits to eating local honey (rather than mass produced supermarket honey) is all of those pollens actually help with allergies and allowing us measly humans to build up immunity to our surroundings.
Bees are very special! We should 100% celebrate them by supporting local bee keepers, keeping bees yourself, drinking locally made Mead and of course by eating delicious Chicken Wings coated in local honey at Newstead Brewing. (This is totally a plug and just what the doctor ordered).
Bee kind to each other out there. Support local.
