A few weeks ago we travelled down to the second annual Craft Beer Awards (CBA) hosted by the Craft Beer Industry Association (CBIA) in Sydney. We’re not big on shouting about awards or patting ourselves on the back – not just because we can’t reach. We like to let our beer do the talking and if people like it then great. If they want to drink it again and again well that makes us happy too. However, the CBA are different to most because – similar to the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) – the beers are judged by brewers. It makes us tingle a little bit if our peers deem our brews worthy of a gong or two.
That particular night we walked away with FIVE bronze medals, THREE silvers and ONE gold medal which was accompanied by a category winning trophy for our 3 Quarter Time Session Ale. It picked up the top award in the Specialty Beer category (categorised due to its low alcohol content). Even more pleasing was that other Queensland breweries also brought some booty back to the Sunshine State. Our neighbours Green Beacon Brewing Co scooped FIVE medals including THREE golds whilst Four Hearts Brewing Co, Fortitude Brewing Co and Burleigh Brewing Co claimed SIX medals between them.
As a state, Queensland is certainly heading in the right direction with its beer.
